Hospice Experiences

Choosing hospice care for a loved one isn’t easy. These families trusted Gaffey to care for, and comfort, their family during one of life’s most difficult journeys.

They go the extra mile and then some!

Gaffey Home Nursing & Hospice helped to take the burden off of us when they cared for my mother and father-in-law, Velda & Emmert. They are trained and know what’s best for the patient. I get a sense of calm knowing that both were in such great hands.

I would highly recommend them all.

In 2007, we found out my wife, Elsie, was diagnosed with dementia. As time went on and Elsie was being cared for at home, we knew we needed more help for Elsie. My family and I attended local seminars to gather information. We found that information helpful, but far from complete. We began to research nursing homes and assisted living centers. However, due to other family member's negative experiences with nursing homes and assisted living centers, as well as the cost of them, we talked as family and decided caring for Elsie at home was the better choice. After looking into several home nursing companies, we chose Gaffey Home Nursing. We found the information they provided to be more helpful and useful. Elsie was admitted onto nursing services on November 19, 2014, and received home visits from a Registered Nurse and Certified Nursing Aide.

As Elsie's condition changed, we entered the hospice stage of help. With the Gaffey Bridge Program, Elsie was admitted to hospice services on March 31, 2016. Elsie was able to have the same caring staff that she did before. Now, we receive home visits from a Registered Nurse, Certified Bath Aide, Music Therapist, and Medical Social Worker who come to help with Elsie's healthcare as well as with any problems that our family has. The Medical Social Worker was able to provide more specific information on Medicare Part D while under hospice care that no one had explained before. This was very helpful to me and my family. We were able to save more money each month as we are on a fixed income. The Registered Nurse and Medical Social Worker visit once per week, Certified Nursing Aide visits twice per week, and Music Therapist visits twice per month. Also, every 60 days the hospice Medical Director makes a home visit to re-certify Elsie for hospice care. All these services are provided to us by Gaffey Hospice.

We've been very pleased with the help from Gaffey Home Nursing & Hospice as well their staff. We've been very pleased with the complementary music therapy service and how well Elsie responds to it. Gaffey Home Nursing & Hospice people are very caring and helpful, and I would highly recommend them all.

GAFFEY Home Health and Hospice is a class act.

My wife, Penny Hammer, had dealt with Hodgkin’s lymphoma for 13 years. Four chemotherapy regiments and two stem cell transplant over those years had got her into remission and she was feeling good. Then she developed very aggressive uterine cancer. After surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation the cancer kept growing. She finally made the decision to stop all medications and let nature take it’s course. She just felt that treatments and medications were not providing proper quality of life. She made a decision to bring in hospice to help navigate those final days. There was no hesitation in her decision as she picked GAFFEY Health And Hospice Service. She had worked with them before through her job at the hospital and knew them to be knowledgeable and caring.

From our first meeting with nurse Stacey we were both put at great ease. She laid things out to let us know what to expect and what GAFFEY would do for us during that time. She had such a positive attitude and warm spirit that we knew we were in good hands. Sarah was there with Stacey to help us wrap our heads around what was happening and what we could do. She answered all our questions with such positivity and comfort. Kaitlyn provided personal care and bathing and did so with such gentleness and kindness. Although service was it we’re only need it for about three weeks, we cannot say enough thanks for the services provided.

After my wife passed away I dealt with a lot of grief anxiety. Sarah, through GAFFEY services, provided excellent help to help me get through it. She provided materials and weekly conversations at my home to help me understand that everything I was going through was very normal. Her soft-spoken nature with the knowledge she possess was instrumental in helping me get the reassurances I needed.

From the very top administration to those wonderful people that provide house visits for hospice patients, GAFFEY Home Health and Hospice is a class act. I recommend them to anyone who needs this special service.

To All at Gaffey Hospice,

I wanted to take this opportunity to properly thank you for all that you did for us to make Gayle's journey from here to her forever home a comfortable and peaceful one. She really appreciated each and every one of you and enjoyed getting to know you. Your kindness and compassion, your consideration of every need, your attention to every detail lifted a great deal of the burden off of us and allowed us to concentrate on what was important, making the most of the time we had left together. Knowing you were just a phone call or text away was a tremendous comfort to me.

I know it takes a lot of special people to make Gaffey Hospice the wonderful organization that it is, but I would like to especially thank Stacey, Taylor, Dacia, and Carly for taking such good care of Gayle and to Anita for taking care of me too, and for making us both laugh. You were all a bright spot in our day, and I truly believe you are all angels in disguise.

Thank you also to Dacia for being there the day Gayle passed and for stepping in with such sensitivity to our feelings and to our needs while quietly handling all of the details that needed to be taken care of.

My hope is that the donations that we received for the Gaffey Hospice Foundation, in memory of Gayle, will in some small way help us help you pay it forward, so other families may receive the help we did in navigating this most difficult of times.

God Bless,
Steve Kibble

They were wonderful!

The nursing staff was great and really helped us through a difficult time when they cared for my husband Gene. The nurses talked and comforted Gene. They wanted our feedback and acted on the suggestions we gave them. They were awesome!

I would recommend Gaffey to anyone.

My husband, Brandy Spencer, chose Gaffey because his mother, Jeanette, had them and she was very pleased with their services. I felt comfortable with them caring for Brandy. Becky and Chris took excellent care of him in his final days. The staff is very trustworthy and gave me guidance and helped me through a rough time. They gave me comfort and reassured me we made the right choice. Gaffey was there for us throughout everything. Brandy passed away September 2013 and they continue to check up on me after the fact. I would recommend Gaffey to anyone.
